Abbreviated Forms in the Instagram Account of As'adiyah Pusat Sengkang

Abstract

The use of abbreviations is now unavoidable as time goes by. As human needs for language increase, so does the vocabulary used, including abbreviations. Sometimes the meaning of an abbreviation or its abbreviation cannot be immediately guessed by the reader. This can shift the meaning of some vocabulary in Indonesian. This study aims to describe the dominant use of abbreviations based on their type and function found in the Instagram account of As'adiyah Pusat Sengkang. This research is descriptive qualitative, which is considered to provide a picture in accordance with existing facts. This is considered appropriate for providing a picture as detailed as possible in accordance with reality. Furthermore, the baca method was also used in data collection. Data collection in this study used the baca method with documentation techniques starting from posts from December 2024 to July 2025. From the results obtained in the Instagram account of As'adiyah Pusat Sengkang, only three abbreviations were used: abbreviations, acronyms, and combinations of acronym abbreviations. The use of abbreviations, both abbreviations and acronyms, is expected to increase efficiency and effectiveness within the school environment, both in the teaching and learning process and in administrative activities at As'adiyah. Coupled with interesting and informative content, the use of abbreviations on the As'adiyah Pusat Instagram account can be an effective medium for introducing Islamic boarding schools, attracting the interest of prospective students, and establishing good relationships with alumni, parents of students, and even the wider community.
